General Information for 2019-20 Season

Birth Years for 2019-2020 Season
The 8 & Under Program, referred to as the Mite Division, is a coed program consisting of boys and girls with birth years: 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  Players with birth year 2015 or younger may be accepted on a case by case basis.

Brief Description of Program:
The primary focus of the Mite Program is to introduce ice hockey fundamentals and skill development in a fun way that develops a passion for the game. The 8 & Under Program at Arvada Hockey Association will continue to follow the USA Hockey ADM (American Development Model). Please visit the USA Hockey link for more information on the ADM at  In keeping with USA Hockey ADM, this season our Mite Division will consist of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  If your child is a 2013 or younger birth year, they will be registered as a Mite Beginner for the 2019-20 season regardless if they have played at Arvada Hockey or elsewhere before.  If your player is a 2012 birth year they will be registered as a Mite Intermediate.  If your player is a 2011 birth year they will be registered as a Mite Advanced. The only exception to this policy is if your older child is completely new to the sport of hockey.  Then we will work with you and our coaches to ensure they are placed at the best level for their development.  If you child is older than a 2011 birth year, they can no longer play in our U8 Mite Program and must register at the Squirt level.

The 8 & Under Program will set the foundation for the players' hockey development and prepare them to progress through the older age divisions (Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget) where opportunities exist at Arvada Hockey to play on competitive travel teams or in-house recreational teams.

Registration for the 2019-2020 season will open June 1st and continues throughout the season until January 2020. Our 8 & Under Program accepts all new players so the "move-in" process and tryouts do not apply to this age division. Pre-season skill sessions and evaluations will be held starting in September 2019 with the official season beginning in late October 2019.

What if my son/daughter has never skated?

Apex Learn to Skate & Intro to Hockey Program is a great program for players who have not yet skated or need to add a few skills to their program...a GREAT way to begin hockey!  However, prior skating and hockey experience is not required for our 8 & Under Program.

Registration in the 8 & Under Program will remain open until January 2012 and players can register at anytime until then.  Arvada Hockey welcomes players to join at anytime and this flexible program has become popular and convenient for some players/families, especially younger or new players. When players join during the season their fees will be pro-rated accordingly.

The 2019-20 full season fees are as follows: Mite Beginner - $675,  Mite Intermediate - $875, Mite Advanced - $875.  Once again AHA is pleased to offer an installment plan whereby season fees can be made over 3 scheduled payments.  More detailed fee and payment information can be found on our registration page registration page.

Neck Guards:
Arvada Hockey Association is following USA Hockey guidelines and strongly recommending neck guards for all players in the 8 & Under Program.  Mouth guards are not required.

Jerseys: A jersey unique to the AHA Mite Division will be provided to all players and is included in registration fees.
